The Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) announced its new category for public transportation that will allow GrabTaxi, GrabCar and other app-based taxi booking services to fully operate in the country.
The Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) classification among three other transport categories (Premium Taxi, Airport Bus, and Bus Rapid Transit) aims to ease traffic congestion.
The TVNS ensures smooth and safe rides for passengers compared to the traditional taxi as TVNS uses cars not older than 7 years old and equipped with global positioning system (GPS). Moreover, passengers can book a ride using an app on their smartphones. This give them the ease of not having to fall in a very long line or wait under the heat of the sun or under the rain.
According to DOTC Secretary Joseph Emilio “Jun” Abaya, “Many people appreciate the safe and convenient services offered by the TNVS category. We want this to motivate other public utility vehicle operators to modernize, upgrade, and innovate their services for the benefit of the public.”
True to its goal, GrabTaxi and GrabCar provided convenience and great riding experience to its passengers.
I am personally booking rides with GrabTaxi and GrabCar almost everyday for more than a year now and it never fail to keep me safe and satisfied with my riding experience.
DOTC made a very good decision in creating this new public transportation categories and this will surely enable GrabTaxi, and GrabCar to provide great service to more people.
